‘Lines Continued’ Features Artistic Family

‘Lines Continued’ in the Edinburgh Gallery at the Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall, Hamilton brings together three artist members of the same family, Catherine Lapsley, her son Peter Lapsley and his wife Andrea Sundt.

A spokesperson said, “‘This exhibition is open to the public from March 10 – 28. Featuring works that are a continuation of differing series this family of artists have been individually creating and exhibiting over the past several years that reference the natural world as they respond to the themes they are investigating. Each artist represent a unique approach to artmaking in both medium and form that is simultaneously as complex as it is simple and includes painting, drawing and mixed media.

“Catherine Lapsley is a Bermudian artist with a background in art and design. After attending Kingston-on-Thames Art School in the UK she went on to work with innovative design and architecture firms in London before forging a career in the corporate and non-profit sectors in Bermuda. Catherine’s art practice has focused primarily on painting and she has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions in Bermuda including at the Bermuda National Gallery, Bermuda Society of Art, Masterworks and is included in a number of local collections including the Hamilton Princess Collection and the collection of John Charman.

“Andrea Sundt is a Bermuda based artist and costume designer with a background designing for theatre and film. Raised in Oslo, Norway, Andrea received her Costume Design degree from Esmod Paris in 2007 followed by a BFA in Fine Art from Parsons School of Design in New York, 2014. Andrea has exhibited in several group shows locally and internationally, among them the Bermuda National Gallery Biennials [2016, 2018, 2020] as well as Detras del Muro, part of the 2019 Havana Biennial.

“Peter Lapsley is a Bermudian artist living and working in Bermuda. Peter holds an MFA [hons] from Parsons School of Design and his work has been exhibited in Bermuda, New York and internationally and is held in a number of local and international collections. His current series of works are informed by his material explorations of identity and place. Peter works with a broad range of materials including works on paper, mylar, brass, steel, glass and gold leaf.”
