April 26, 2023

Omar Hayward began competing at the Montreal World Boccia Cup in his 1st competition of the year.

Over 100 athletes from 28 countries will compete including Bermuda’s Yushae DeSilva-Andrade who comes into the competition ranked 10th in the world.

Both are hoping to qualify for the Para Pan American Games being held in Chile in November.

Hayward who is ranked 30th had a tough start to competition losing his first match 13-0 to world number 6 John Loung from Hong Kong.

Hayward is in a must-win in his next match to have a chance to progress to the quarter-finals. Hayward plays world number 10 Panagiotis Soulanis from Greece whom he had a close match in the semi-finals in the Netherlands last year so has everything still to play for.

DeSilva-Andrade plays her first match on day two of the competition against world number 19 Hiromi Endo from Japan.
