Youth Mental Health Summit Gets Underway
In conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Coalition for the Protection of Children, announced its upcoming schedule of events, for the Blue Table Talk Youth Mental Health Summit [BTTS].
A spokesperson said, “The Summit aims to bring together mental health professionals, parents, educators, and students to share knowledge and strategies for improving youth mental health in Bermuda.
“The first day of the Summit kicked off with a unique, interactive, solution-based networking event for mental health professionals on Wednesday, April 19th at 5:30 pm. This event will provide an opportunity for professionals to connect around the topic of youth mental health, identify resource gaps and create actionable tasks to fill those gaps.
“The BTTS officially begins on Thursday, April 20th, and runs through Friday, April 21st. The two days will feature interactive workshops facilitated by both local and international guest speakers. Local S1 & S2 students will learn about a range of topics related to youth mental health, including anger management, resilience building, body positivity, and suicide prevention at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI].
“On the evening of April 20th at 6 pm, parents are invited to a free workshop at BUEI [Tradewinds Auditorium], facilitated by Joanne Darrell-Herbert on “Parenting the Child You Have.” This workshop is designed to help parents navigate the parenting rollercoaster by asking, “How can we spend the limited energy we have on working with the kid that we got instead of the kid we wish them to be?
“Educators and administrators are also invited to participate in a Professional Development Workshop on April 20th at 6 pm at BUEL [Upper Level], led by Olympia Wilson. This workshop, titled Building School Culture and Empowering the Student Voice, will provide educators with strategies for creating a supportive and inclusive school culture that prioritizes student mental health.
“Overall, the three-day schedule of events is sure to provide valuable insights and practical strategies for anyone interested in improving youth mental health. The Coalition encourages everyone to attend this important topic’s relevant sessions and events.
“S1 & S2 Students interested in participating should reach out to their school counselor for registration details. For students who are unable to attend in person, select sessions will be live streamed via Youtube during the event. For more information about the summit or to register for the various public workshops please contact Sloane Johnson at sjohnson@coalition.bm or 532-1154.”
