BZS Offering Whale Watching Tours
BZS Whale Watching Tours return in March and April, and “a BZS Educator and naturalist onboard each tour, bringing an unmatched depth of insight into the behaviour and biology of these majestic creatures.”
A spokesperson said, “The whales are back! We know our spring marine visitors have been making a steady appearance in the waters off Bermuda already this year, but March and April mark some of the best times to potentially see humpback whale activity as they migrate past the island, where they enjoy playing and socialising as a mid-ocean stopover on their journey north.
“What sets apart a Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS] Whale Watching Tour? BZS and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo [BAMZ] were the founders of Whale Watching in Bermuda, and our expert crew have gained years of expertise and knowledge over that time.”
“Board the M/V Endurance and spend some time at a view point off South Shore for the potential to spy humpbacks,” said Nigel Pollard, BZS Endurance Captain. “We will be heading offshore over the next couple of months to spend some time taking in the sights and sounds of the migration.”
The spokesperson said, “A BZS Educator and naturalist onboard each tour, bringing an unmatched depth of insight into the behaviour and biology of these majestic creatures. Not only that, but the observations made onboard a BZS Whale Watching Tour can help our local whale researchers gain further understanding around the cetaceans that visit our waters to continue necessary conservation work.”
Mr. Pollard explained, “Help us gather fluke IDs to aid in further research and learn from our experts about the incredible history of the humpback whale. Our experienced crew goes beyond simply guiding you to the whales – they ensure every passenger enjoys a deeper educational experience while fostering a connection with the ocean and its inhabitants.”
The spokesperson said, “BZS Whale Watching Tours are available throughout March and April and the cost for the approximately 6-hour tour is $75 for BZS Members and $100 for Non-Members. The minimum age to participate in a tour is 10 years old.
“Proceeds from these tours go directly to support our Stempel Foundation/BZS Schools Programme, which connects Bermuda’s young people to the wonders of the ocean and our island environments.
“Tours leave at 11 a.m. from BAMZ at Flatts Dock aboard Endurance. The BZS boat provides a stable platform and an upper deck for 360-degree viewing.
