Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport Owen Darrell said, “Heritage Month is one of the most exciting times for our island. This month residents and visitors can take part in several activities, including street festivals, musical events, heritage conferences and lectures, cultural wellness activities and of course the most anticipated event on May 26, the Bermuda Day Parade.

“Currently we have several groups that are signed up to participate in the Parade. Once again, this year we can expect to see the creative floats, dance groups, drum lines, majorettes, music trucks and of course our celebrated Gombeys.

“I also want to remind anyone who is interested in joining the parade, that we are here to assist. Last week we announced a wonderful initiative aimed at providing support for our Bermuda Day Parade participants. In partnership with the Bermuda Foundation, we launched the Bermuda Day Fund, which provides up to $2,500 to help offset the costs for parade participants.

“We’re encouraging the public to get involved in helping our parade participants by donating to the Bermuda Day Fund. Interested sponsors can generously donate by visiting www.GiveBermuda.org.

“We want to have as much participation as possible, so let’s help our float-builders, majorettes, dance groups and others take part in this iconic event.”

A spokesperson added, “The public can also expect to see full start to finish live coverage of the Bermuda Day Parade via the Government’s Facebook page, CITV YouTube channel and on CITV [One ch. 2 and Wow ch. 102].

“More details of all the Heritage Month events can be found at www.culture.bm. For more information on how to be a part of the Heritage Month and Bermuda Day activities, please email culture@gov.bm or call 292-1681.”
