Andre Lambe improved his professional boxing record to eight straight wins after stopping Filipino Ronniel Tabayag in the main event at The Shed in Dockyard last night [May 27].

Lambe utilised his superior reach and technique to impressive effect, keeping the significantly shorter Tabayag [6-3-1] out of range and seemingly landing punches at will throughout the short-lived welterweight contest.

The 27-year-old floored his opponent in the third following a flurry of thudding blows, with referee Anthony Mouchette waving the fight off after Tabayag failed to beat the count.

“I quickly realised I was too tall for him, and my reach was too long,” Lambe told Bernews. “I was able to touch him and throw punches.

“I became more intense throughout the rounds. I was able to throw punches and slip his counterpunches.

“Every time he loaded up, I could easily move out of the way. I hit him with a bunch of power punches. He tried to counter, and I threw a left hook and right jab, and he went down.”

Lambe, who missed weight at the weigh-in on Friday, citing a recent bout with Covid-19 and the emotional strain of dealing with the death of his close friend Marco Warren as contributing factors, said he expects his next outing to be overseas this summer.

“It’s been a tough camp,” the southpaw added. “I’m just happy to take a break and think about everything that’s happened.

“I hope to fight overseas next. We have a date, and it should be this summer.”
