National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Awards

The Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport Owen Darrell presented the National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Programme Awards [NJASPA] to several deserving young people who have demonstrated sports excellence over the past year.

Minister Darrell said, “These young athletes have demonstrated tremendous potential in their chosen sports. With the assistance of the Government, the people of Bermuda, their families, coaches, and National sporting Governing Bodies, we are confident they will represent our country with dignity. We must continue to invest and support our junior athletes so that they become the next generation of elite sporting talent in Bermuda. I take this opportunity to congratulate all our 2023 National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Programme recipients.”

The recipients were:

The Bermuda Rugby Football Union has been allocated the sum of $2,488.00 for Malachi Paynter to attend the Under 19 Caribbean Championships.

The Bermuda Sailing Association has been allocated a sum of $5,707.00 for Sebastian Kempe to compete at the ILCA7 Men’s World Championships.

The Bermuda Sanshou Association has been allocated a sum of $3,751.00 for Kallan Todd to compete at the World Kickboxing and Karate Championships.

The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association has been awarded the sum of $2,769.00 for Brandon Adkins to attend a 4-week camp at Baylor School.

The Bermuda Basketball Association has been allocated the sum of $3,028.00 for Ralph Scott to attend the Point Guard College Basketball Camp.

The Bermuda Bicycle Association has been allocated a sum of $2,312.00 for Annabelle Miller to race at the Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago.

The Bermuda Cricket Board has been allocated a sum of $3,749.00 for Luke Fulton to attend the Steffan Jones Pace Lab.

The Bermuda Equestrian Federation has been allocated the sum of $3,000.00 for Cody Rego to continue to compete on the East Coast and transport his horse to competitions.

The Bermuda Football Association has been allocated the sum of $2,914.00 for Harry Twite to attend the Galactic’s Camp in Liverpool.

The Bermuda Volleyball Association has been allocated a sum of $2,659.00 for Makaylie Smith to attend an overseas training camp in preparation to represent Bermuda.

A Sum of $3,374.00 has been allocated to the Bermuda Boxing Federation to host a 7 day intensive training camp featuring Hilario Zapata.

A sum of $2,968.00 has been allocated to the National Archery Association of Bermuda, to host the Geneva Archery Camp featuring Phil Graves.

A sum of $3,041.00 has been granted to Bermuda Triathlon Association to host the Youth Development Camp featuring Parker Spencer and local coaches.

A sum of $2,750.00 has been granted to the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association to host the 2B Motorsports Camp featuring William Moore.

A sum of $2,915.00 has been allocated to the Bermuda Hockey Federation to host a training camp on island featuring Sportsways Coaches.

A sum of $2,541.00 has been allocated to the Bermuda Netball Association to host a training camp on island featuring Americas Federation of Netball coaches.

Nicholas Pilgram was awarded the Dame Flora Duffy Award.
