Public School Signature Learning Partnerships
“As part of Bermuda’s ongoing Education Reform, we are pleased to announce that the Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS], Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science [BIOS], Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI], KPMG in Bermuda and the Association of Bermuda International Companies [ABIC] have all signed Memoranda of Understanding [MoUs] committing their support to the Signature Learning Programmes at CedarBridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute,” said the Minister of Education Diallo Rabain.
Minister Rabain added, “Launched in September 2022, Signature Learning is Bermuda’s approach to providing every learner with an educational experience that prepares them for their future and connects them with industry and their community. Learning Partnerships are about recognising that education in Bermuda is everyone’s business – everyone has a vested interest in building the future workforce.”
Lisa DeSilva, leader of the Education Reform Unit, stated, “Each Signature Learning Programme is designed to provide a range of learning opportunities that enable students to develop the skills, knowledge, and relationships to follow their passions, build on their talents, and achieve their career and further education aspirations.”
“The Learning Partners who have signed up will enhance teaching and learning within the Signature Learning Programmes in new and innovative ways by contributing to curriculum and real-world project co-design and hosting work shadowing and internship opportunities. They will also help build teacher capabilities through professional learning opportunities and teacher externships where educators are invited to spend time alongside professionals in their working environments to better understand the knowledge, skills, and dispositions young people will need to succeed there.”
“We are already seeing the benefits of Learning Partnerships. Students enrolled in the Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths [STEM] Signature at CedarBridge Academy have been able to experience science first-hand, learning alongside experts and in real-world professional environments at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo in Flatts thanks to BZS who have been working with staff to co-deliver modules including Field Investigations. Teachers have also had the opportunity to receive industry-aligned professional development, with an initial cohort taking part in international business training through support from ABIC.”
“This is just the beginning. More community and industry partners will be committing their expertise to Bermuda’s public school system over the coming months as new Signature Learning Programmes come online.
