2023 Raleigh Venturers Scholarship Recipients
Zyire Gomes, Sianon Thomas and Yeshai Burgess have been awarded the Raleigh International Bermuda 2023 Venturers’ Scholarships, and they will travel to Costa Rica this summer for 10 weeks to ”work with the indigenous villages, build schools & homes, build water ways for the local community, develop environmental and sustainability projects” and more.
A spokesperson said, “Raleigh International Bermuda announced their 2023 Venturers’ Scholarship recipients. Congratulations to our following young Bermudians who have completed Raleigh’s Bermuda’s local training camps and are now successful recipients of the Venturers’ Scholarship Award valued at $12,000 per student.
“The Scholarship Recipients are:
- Zyire Gomes, age 18, Bermuda College
- Sianon Thomas, age 18, Bermuda College
- Yeshai Burgess, age 17, Berkeley Institute
“The successful scholarship recipients will travel to Costa Rica this summer for 10 weeks to work with the indigenous villages, build schools & homes, build water ways for the local community, develop environmental and sustainability projects and so much more!
“Raleigh Bermuda’s Venturer Programme is a robust, intensive, survival skills-based programme that includes local training camps and the opportunity of a 10-week overseas expedition.
“After returning from expedition, Raleigh helps to equip our young Bermudians by giving them job skills that employers are looking for, as well as opportunities in continuing their post-secondary education with college scholarships.
“Raleigh also provides them with life skills which includes financial/budgeting, problem-solving, social, and coping skills. We believe in helping them to build their confidence, resiliency, and leadership skills as they transition into adulthood and become the next leaders of our community.
“Since 2004, Raleigh Bermuda has provided over 180 scholarships to young Bermudians between the ages of 17 – 24 years old.
