Emma Harvey continued her impressive form at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador, finishing fourth in the 100 metres butterfly final yesterday [June 27].
Harvey, who has won Bermuda’s only medal of the Games so far, a silver in the 50 backstroke, finished in 1min 0.65sec – 0.58 seconds behind Karen Durango, of Colombia, who claimed bronze.
Also competing in the finals was Harvey’s brother Jack, who came eighth in the 200 backstroke final in 2:06.37.
The Bermuda women’s hockey team lost 3-2 to Barbados in their opening preliminary group B match yesterday. They take on the Dominican Republic tomorrow [June 29].
The Bermuda men’s rugby sevens team had to settle for sixth place in their competition after forfeiting their final match against the Cayman Islands because of the number of injuries among the squad.
They started the day by losing to Mexico 17-14 in their final group A match, missing out on reaching the semi-finals.
In the pool classification fifth to seventh-place matches, they beat Costa Rica 19-10 before forfeiting against Cayman.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda men’s bowling team will miss the first three days of the competition after being delayed at Newark Liberty International Airport because of thunderstorms across the region.
The earliest the six-man team – Dennis Joell, Damien Matthews, David Maycock, Carl Reid, Lamar Richardson, and Dayvon Tucker – can arrive in San Salvador is Saturday, meaning they will miss the individual and doubles competitions.
They hope to arrive in time for the trios on Sunday and the quintets on Tuesday.
