Golfers Win Silver & Gold Medals At Island Games
[Updated with video] Bermuda golfer Ebonie Cox made an outstanding showing to claim the gold medal in the women’s individual competition at the Island Games in Guernsey today [July 14] and the women’s golf team won silver, to bring Bermuda’s medal tally to ten.
Cox fended off the challenges of Flora Keites of Jersey, and Christella Winzell of Gotland, carding a final round of 80 on a wet and windy day at L’ Ancresse Links Golf Course. She finished two shots ahead of Keites with a total score of 314.
Meanwhile, Kimberly Botelho shot a final round of 76 – the lowest score of the day – to finish an impressive joint-sixth overall with a total of 322.
An emotional Cox said the secret to her consistency throughout the four rounds was “respecting the course.”
“I wanted to come here and leave with something, but I didn’t think gold would be it,” Cox told Bernews. “I’m humbled and grateful.”
Bermuda’s women’s team of Cox, Botelho, Tracy Burgess, and Ann Symonds secured silver in the team event with a total score of 971, three shots behind gold medal winners Jersey.
