Govt Updates: Services Following Cyber-Incident

The Government provided an updated list of affected services following the cyber-attack which occurred late on Wednesday evening.

A Government spokesperson said, “In continuation of our previous communication regarding government services impacted by the recent cyber incident, we are pleased to offer an updated list of affected services.

  • “All email and the Government main switchboard [295-5151] is not functioning..
  • “911 is still functional. No disruptions in dispatch or fire services at the airport. BFRS is using manual processes for logs and monitoring. Radios are operational. There are no expected delays in response times.
  • “All systems at the Department of Corrections, including the internal locking system and the duress system are still operational. Radios are working. No disruptions to operations at this time.
  • “There are no operation disruptions with Customs, Corrections, the Regiment or Police.
  • “The Health Insurance Department cannot collect premiums or new enrollments. New enrolments for HIP and FutureCare are being accepted. This will require completion of a paper enrolment form at the Health Insurance Department at Sofia House, 48 Church Street.
  • “Premium payments can be made via cash or cheque. HID cannot accept online transfers for new enrolments to HIP or FutureCare. A confirmation of coverage letter will be issued for all new enrolments and should be presented to health service providers as necessary.
  • Premium payments for active HIP and FutureCare policies can be made at our office, via cash or cheque. Online payments will require a copy of the bank confirmation. Please ensure that you enter your current policy number on the comment line.
  • “Please do not place cash payments in the drop box at the Health Insurance Department. Requests for personal home care, including assessments, will be facilitated as expeditiously as possible. Completed applications and all supporting documentation can be faxed to 295-9213 or hand delivered to our office at Sofia House, 48 Church Street. Please contact the Health Insurance Department at 295-9210, with any specific questions.
  • Should you have any other questions, please contact the Health Insurance Department at 295-9210.
  • “In-person services continue at the Bermuda Health Council.
  • “The Youth Sport and Recreation online booking systems are still operating [After school/Island and payments for rentals]. The front desk will issue paper receipts if required.
  • “The Department of Energy and Natural Resources cashier services are limited to cash and cheques.
  • “The Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo is open to the public.
  • “The Department of Planning is unable to receive new applications and continue inspections for construction.
  • “Land Valuation can undertake inspections of new buildings only.
  • “The Post Office is delivering letter mail. They are giving some customers their packages, with a promise and sign-off to pay later. MyBermudaPost website is still operational. Cash stamp sales continue.
  • “TCD is processing cash transactions only and are issuing 1-day permits, straight vehicle relicensing of cars, bikes, trucks and taxis. They are able to receive insurance details.
  • “Private vehicles can still be relicensed online but they cannot confirm the date to produce the license certificate to place in the window or the sticker for bike license plates.
  • “TCD can manually process driving, riding and vehicle exams and write pass slips. No picture cards can be processed at the moment. Online transactions for private vehicles is working, but TCD cannot print the documents.
  • “The Boats & Moorings database is offline and is limited to general enquiries not involving the database. All services are suspended regarding payments. All other Marine and Ports services are operating as normal.
  • “Service for the sale of ferry tokens and passes is not impacted and all ferry services are operated to schedule.
  • “Public transportation is operating as normal. At the Central Terminal, the cashiers will complete sales transactions using handwritten receipts.
  • “Libraries and Archives: Libraries are operating with full service to public. Archives are operating with partial service to public [no research service]. Records Centre: There is no electronic service. In person service only.
  • “Court Services staff are available to see clients and take phone calls on cell phones. Staff will also be doing home visits etc. in the community.
  • “All Magistrates’ Court cases are proceeding as normal. The Supreme Court is hearing limited matters, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Cashiers are still up, but are only processing payments manually. Warrants can be processed on a limited basis.
  • “If any member of the public has questions about the status of their criminal trial, please reach out to witness care officers on their cell phones and provide as much information as possible. Your call will be returned as soon as practicable.
  • “Trials in the Magistrates’ court will proceed.
  • “The National Drug Control Treatment Centre is functioning as per curriculum.
  • “Legal Aid is dealing with clients who attend the office and continue to assist clients/members of the public with the application process. Counsel are attending court.
  • “Consumer Affairs/Rent Control is operating as normal.
  • “The Public Works fuelling systems, weigh bridge system, Tynes Bay operation system, and building security are operational. Site inspection and manual oversight of existing projects will continue.
  • “The Marsh Folly facility and garbage collection is operating normally.
  • “There is minimal impact to the operation of schools and the Ministry of Education.

“The government is presently developing a system for receiving phone calls and emails from individuals who may have inquiries about service interruptions.”

    The Customs CAPS system has been offline all this time.
    This causes major disruption to many merchants and all the couriers.
    How can they keep saying that customs is not affected?

      Agreed! This is exactly what I would like to know. I am having to work harder than ever just to submit declarations and this outage is causing delays of others getting done. What took me 30 secs to do now takes 20 mins, paperwork has to be dropped off, stamped etc, and we can’t wait for that. My collogues and I are stressed out, and our employer is forcing us to work 6 days a week 12 hours a day until this is back up.

    How can they lie about Customs? Customs CAPS is not, this is major and is causing delays with all couriers, freight forwarders, etc. Declaration have to be submitted manually, what took 20 secs to submit electronically now takes 20 mins, Paperwork has to be dropped off at Customs and collected at a later time. They need to make a statement about this because many importers are complaining and stating couriers are telling lies on Customs.
