A spokesperson said, “The One Bermuda Alliance is pleased to announce Nicky Gurret as the approved candidate for Constituency 18, Pembroke West Central.

“She was educated at Warwick Academy, Paget Primary, and Bermuda College. “She possesses extensive experience in building and planning and is a former Head of Building Control with the Department of Planning and has worked as an architect in England and in Bermuda. She has sat on the board of the Bermuda Architects Registration Council and on the council of the Alliance Francais des Bermudes for 25 years and has twice served as president.

“Ms. Gurret is also a former artistic director with the Bermuda Film Festival and is the founder and organiser of the Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition for 25 years, along with the Beach Art Festival and Pechakucha Bermuda. She has published two books on floral art and beach art.

“She was an avid sailor for many years, having taught sailing for the Government programme at White’s Island, eventually becoming head sailing instructor and receiving certification for teaching through the Canadian Yachting Association.

“In her spare time, Ms Gurret enjoys art of all forms, including photography, gardening, and painting, and has earned numerous international awards for her floral art, including six medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, first in NAFAS, and first in the 2019 World Association of Floral Artist [WAFA] in India. She is also a proud band member of Coral Beats Bermuda.

“She believes it is imperative to design affordable housing for Bermuda and that each house and commercial building on the island should become more self-sufficient. Each house under building code regulations is required to have a water tank; the same regulations could be applied to solar panels for homes and solar panels and small vertical wind turbines for commercial and industrial buildings. This could drastically reduce the need to obtain electricity from fossil fuel and reduce BELCO emissions and, in the long run, reduce costs for all residents.

“Ms. Gurret also volunteers for Friends of Hospice and Agape House and has volunteered in the past as an art teacher and helped organise past Hearts Hats and High Tea and Memories Moon Walk events.

“Ms. Gurret lives in Pembroke with her amazing 92-year-old mom, wonderful husband, and two vibrant young adult children.

“Marcus Jones is the approved One Bermuda Alliance candidate for constituency 19, Pembroke West.

“Public service is part of Marcus’s DNA. In his late teens, he served as youth director in his local church, mentoring the next generation to spiritual awareness. As a parent, he served both as PTA President for his alma mater [West End Primary] and in Bermuda’s Foster Parent Programme. Marcus also co-founded the Cook’s Hill Neighbourhood Watch to enhance safety and quality of life for his local community.

“Mr. Jones obtained a B.A. in Economics at Trent University, Ontario. Returning home, he added several hospitality management diplomas at Bermuda College before a 25-year career in hospitality, working in virtually every hotel job. from waiter to General Manager. Highlights include his appointment as Director of Finance of the Novotel Toronto Center in Canada and being the General Manager to oversee the opening of three hotels in Bermuda: The Wharf Executive Suites in Warwick, Grape Bay Beach Resort in Paget, and 9 Beaches Resort in Sandys.

“In 2018, he served as an Opposition Senator and subsequently was appointed Opposition Leader of the Senate. Armed with a passion to hear about the concerns and needs of his constituents, Marcus can often be found canvassing from door to door.”

Mr. Jones said, “Our community faces many challenges and I believe we must bring people together to overcome them. I am committed to advocating tirelessly for the residents in my constituency and Bermuda as a whole.

“A cause which is close to my heart right now is saving West End Primary from being axed by the Ministry of Education in its education reform. The school has been a pillar in the community for decades and should remain intact in its current form.”

The spokesperson said, “One of Mr Jones’ favourite quotes is ‘leadership is not how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others; that is achieved by serving others and adding value to their lives.’ Mr. Jones is a married father of two.”

  1. Tucker says:

They love Trump in the OBA right Jones…………

  2. LOL - the real one says:

Why does the plp act like republicans? They claimed they loved Obama, but hate his policies of inclusion and diversity.
This shows how ignorant the electorate is, when they can’t even recognize the party they vote for.
    Blinded by trace, I guess.
