Athene Awards Scholarships To Five Students

Athene Holding and Athene Life Re held a reception event to recognize the five Bermuda College students — Paula Costa-Medeiros, Kirk Hyde, Shiloh Robinson, Sari Smith, and Shania Wedderburn — who were awarded the 2023 Athene Scholarships.

A spokesperson said, “Athene Holding Ltd. [Athene] and its subsidiary Athene Life Re Ltd. [ALRe] held a reception event on September 26 to honor and recognize the five Bermuda College students who were awarded the 2023 Athene Scholarship. Founded in 2019, the Athene Scholarship program is designed to help build the future workforce in Bermuda in areas that align with business needs.

The spokesperson said, “The Athene Scholarship covers the full costs of each student’s associate degree program and required books. It is available to Bermudian students attending Bermuda College who have financial need and meet a minimum GPA requirement. The scholarship supports students pursuing associate degrees in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Insurance & Risk Management, Legal Studies or Mathematics.

The Fall 2023 Athene Scholarship recipients and their respective areas of study are as follows:

  • Paula Costa-Medeiros, Business Administration
  • Kirk Hyde, Computer Information System
  • Shiloh Robinson, Business Administration
  • Sari Smith, Business Administration
  • Shania Wedderburn, Business Administration

Branwen Smith-King, Interim President of Bermuda College, said, “Athene’s continued support enables distinguished students to focus on their studies by removing or reducing financial barriers. On behalf of Bermuda College, we want to thank those who made the past four years possible.

Natasha Scotland Courcy, Chief Executive Officer, General Counsel for ALRe said, “Celebrating our scholarship recipients is always an exciting time for Athene. We believe all students deserve an education to build a strong foundation for their future and have seen that vision come to fruition through our scholarship program.

“We take immense pride in our role in helping develop the next generation of talent and look forward to engaging with them as they progress through graduation to further education and/or employment.
