Family Centre has launched a World Children’s Day Critical Appeal “in an effort to make up significant funding shortfalls experienced this year. ”

A spokesperson said, “The organization has launched the island-wide critical appeal to narrow the shortfall and ensure children and families facing social and emotional challenges can continue to receive the therapeutic help they need without the burden of cost.

Family Centre’s Executive Director, Dr Sandy De Silva explains, “There has been a notable shift in donor giving this year creating a significant shortfall in funding.

“Family Centre is an accredited Bermuda registered charity that has been serving Bermuda’s children and families for over 33 years. The charity is dedicated to improving families’ lives in Bermuda by providing innovative, free of charge mental health counselling services for children, teens, and their families, community outreach programmes, and advocacy initiatives. Family Centre is committed to ensuring access to support without barriers.”

Thania Redman, Family Centre’s Relationship Development Director stated, “We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our donors this year. We know every donor has a choice of whom they will support, and we are thankful they have chosen us. Family Centre’s positive impact on children and families as an essential service provider in Bermuda depends heavily on donor funding.”

The spokesperson said, “World Children’s Day is observed on November 20th annually and was chosen by the charity for its critical appeal as it marks the anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

“The Declaration ensures that children receive protection, nurture, and have their basic needs met so that they have the best opportunity to thrive and grow into their full potential. Family Centre provides families with children and teens in Bermuda with access to services that support their emotional and social wellbeing without barriers.

Hannah Collins, Family Centre Fund Development Coordinator explains how the appeal works, saying, “We are asking the community to invest in our children’s rights in Bermuda to be nurtured and cared for, and have access to opportunities for growth and development.

“Visit https://tfc.bm/family-centre-appeal and see how your support impacts the lives of children in Bermuda. You can donate directly on our website or contact us at 232-1116 for more information about our appeal.”

“The charity is also encouraging companies to host a denim day on Friday, November 24 and turn the world ‘blue’ in acknowledgement and support of children. Some schools are participating in a grub day and some food stores will host a ‘round up’ day to aid in the appeal for funding.”

Dr. De Silva stated, “This World Children’s Day, let us remember that every child represents dreams, hopes, and potentials. Let us unite this November 20th, to take concrete actions for a brighter, sustainable future for every child. Please support Family Centre this November.”
