Jessica Lewis: ‘Proud To Win For Bermuda’

Following her record setting victory in the 100m at the Parapan Games in Chile, Jessica Lewis said she is “incredibly proud” to have won a gold medal for Bermuda and thanked everyone for their “wonderful messages.”

Lewis set a new record finishing in 16.71, breaking the old record of 17.36, which she set herself when she won the 2019 Games. This win marks her third consecutive gold medal in this event at the Parapan Games; having remained undefeated in the 100m in the event since 2015.

Considering the Parapan Games includes over 30 nations including the US, Canada, and nations in the Caribbean and South America, this is a remarkable achievement by the 30-year-old sprinter, who finished well ahead of the field to win gold in commanding style.

In a post on Instagram, Lewis said, “Incredibly proud to have won Gold and set a new ParaPan Am Games record for the third time in the 100m for Bermuda! The last few months have brought a lot of new amazing changes to my athletic career and I couldn’t be more grateful to Coach Geoff for his support, encouragement and guidance. ⁣

The 2023 Parapan Games saw a superb overall showing by Bermuda’s athletes, as in addition to this gold medal, Yushae DeSilva-Andrade won a silver medal in boccia and Omar Hayward claimed a strong 4th place finish in boccia.
