Taj Donville-Outerbridge Elected To IGLYO Board

Taj Donville-Outerbridge Bermuda June 21 2022Taj Donville-Outerbridge has been elected to the International LGBTQI Youth and Student Organisation [IGLYO] board during their Annual Members’ Conference in Montenegro.

A spokesperson said, “IGLYO — The International LGBTQI Youth and Student Organisation is the largest member-based network in the world dedicated to LGBTQI youth and their rights.

“IGLYO gathers over 100 Member Organisations in more than 40 Council of Europe countries, as well as countless friends and partners worldwide. Their work focuses on the protection, empowerment, and freedom of LGBTQI young people.

“On 19-23 October 2023, IGLYO held their Annual Members’ Conference 2023 in Podgorica, Montenegro, in collaboration with their local Member Queer Montenegro.

“The conference gathered over 70 LGBTQI young activists from across the Council of Europe region for a four-day programme including IGLYO’s General Assembly, speeches from local activists, Member-led workshops, networking activities, joining the Montenegro Pride march, as well as the IGLYO Board Elections.

“IGLYO’s Executive Board is the elected leadership of IGLYO. Board Members are nominated by Member Organisations and mandated for a term of three years by the Members’ General Assembly to oversee the governance and strategy of the organisation. The Board consists of nine dedicated LGBTQI young activists between 18 and 30 years old from across the Council of Europe region.

“Upon the Board Elections in Podgorica, the Members of IGLYO decided to elect Taj Donville-Outerbridge [They/He, UK/Bermuda] and Yasemin Bahar [They/them, Turkey], and to re-elect continuing Board Member Yassine Chagh [He/They, Cyprus] to the Executive Board. The three of them join the six Board Members whose mandate continues.”

The organisation said Taj Donville-Outerbridge “is an unapologetic Black, queer award-winning human rights activist, writer, and student” and noted Donville-Outerbridge co-founded Bermuda LGBTQ+ youth group, ‘The Village’ and “was a significant contributor to the founding/development of Bermuda Pride.”

“Taj is also a regular contributor to the island’s media outlets on issues related to youth, LGBTQ+ rights, and anti-racism. Currently living and studying in the UK, they continue to be an active champion for sustainability, intersectionality, decolonisation, and anti-racism both at the university level and on a national scale within the UK’s National Union of Students,” the organisation said.

“IGLYO congratulates Taj for his election to the IGLYO Executive Board, and looks forward to working with them during their mandate until 2026.”
