St George’s Prepares For New Year’s Eve

The Corporation of St George’s has announced preparations for the New Year’s Eve celebration on St. George’s Town Square and are calling for festive vendors, and giving notice to area businesses for the added traffic.

Town Manager Candy-Lee Foggo stated, “The family of the Town of St. George looks forward to opening the town to extended family, friends, and guests to our shores for a home-town festive gathering as we celebrate the start of the new year. It goes without saying that many people look forward to this activity because it allows them to share in a global event that makes memories for years to come.

“The local food, singing, dancing, and photos—so many photos. There are few locations that have a countdown symbol, but the Town of St. George is proud to have its own Onion, emblazoned with shiny lights, like New York City has a big crystal apple. While Bermuda and New York share a square for celebration, St. George’s brings 400 years of history to its Town Square, plus, for the first time in a long while, the toll of the Town clock will ring out at the stroke of midnight from St. Peter’s Church.”

Ms Foggo continued, “We remind residents that there will be added traffic coming into the town during the evening, so we ask for patience as we accommodate extra guests. Also, we would like to inform you that trash collection will take place promptly after the New Year’s holiday on Tuesday, January 2nd.

“For town businesses, parking might be disrupted as we setup staging and cordon off areas to secure King’s Square and Ordnance Island, and Water Street will be closed to traffic during the festivities. For other details, they can visit the town newsletter located at corpstgeorge.bm/newsletters.”

The spokesperson said, “Vendors with festive offerings that wish to participate in the event still have a little time; all they will have to do is contact the Corporation’s office and speak with Mrs Rennika Denbrook, PFSO, Operations & Logistics Coordinator, to register for the event.”

Ms Foggo closed, “The NYE Celebration will be free and take place at King’s Square, 8:30 p.m.–1 a.m. We will also provide free parking at our parking lot at Tiger Bay. The public can get updates at corpstgeorge.bm/nye2024.”

  1. Come on now says:

How is this a global event Ms Foggo?
Photos are your only selling point for this event? Oh, the photos? Photos don’t make an event a global experience. What a joke! At least they added the ringing of the bell. It’s time for change. Then the nerve to compare to NYE in NY lol. Dreamers. Time for new people and new ideas across the island
