St George Unveils New Year’s Eve Party Lineup

December 28, 2023 | 2 Comments

The Corporation of St. George revealed the plans for their New Year’s Eve celebration, featuring local entertainment, vendors, the onion drop and more.

A spokesperson said, “The Corporation is thrilled to reveal the line-up for the New Year’s Eve celebration in the Town. The entire town is aglow, parking has been strategically organized for convenience, and vendors, selected based on specialty and entertainment, are poised to maintain the festive atmosphere leading up to the highlight of the evening—the onion drop. All are welcome.”

Town Mayor Quinell Francis said, “Preparing for our annual holiday events has been a delightful experience! This year, we collaborated with our community partner, the Bermuda National Trust, for their historical open homes event. In addition, our staff illuminated the entire town from York Street to the tip of Ordnance Island, organised ‘Santa’s Coming to Town,’ and is now ready for the New Year’s Eve Celebration, where the entire town will unite—residents, friends, guests, and anyone seeking an authentic experience.”

The spokesperson said, “For over a decade, the Town of St. George has been the proud host of the NYE Celebration, showcasing numerous talents and providing a launchpad for small businesses to gain national exposure through vending at the event. This year promises to feature many familiar faces.

“The Wallstreet Band, taking centre stage, is acclaimed for their overwhelming popularity and versatile repertoire spanning from a big band sound to a soulful vocal soloist, captivating audiences of all ages. Voted Best of Bermuda, they have consistently demonstrated their ability to move the crowds and entertain with finesse.

“Nadanja Bailey will play dual roles during the celebration: the evening’s charismatic MC and the DJ, infusing the crowd with a blend of today’s hits and nostalgic throwbacks that will have everyone, including Grandma, grooving. As a well-established local and international performer, his knack for holding a crowd and seamlessly integrating hometown traditions makes him the perfect guide through band interludes.”

Mayor Francis enthusiastically adds, “We’re thrilled to announce that we are sponsoring the New Year’s Eve Celebration through our UNESCO Grants program. This support allows us to showcase our World Heritage Site as a unique destination that is over 400 years old and remains actively alive.

“As Bermuda’s only town, the Council is honored to host this event for residents and provide business opportunities for many vendors. Keeping entry free and offering complimentary parking ensures that this event is accessible to all of Bermuda. Supporting parents, we ensured that a Fun Zone is made available, as it helps build long-lasting memories of St. George’s town life for generations to come. As Mayor Francis wisely states, “The stories of today’s activities are the history of tomorrow.”

The spokesperson said, “The Corporation has made Tiger Bay and its overflow section available for free parking. The public is informed of the newly paved road; some road markings might not be ready, so please use care, caution, and courtesy when travelling through the town.

“The Food and Fun Zone promises enjoyment for all. Ashley’s Lemonade, Bermuda Cupcake Company, Dandy Donuts, Food Hub, Hot Dog Delight, and Jazzy Treats will be serving during the evening, accompanied by Paintz by Z with face painting and body art, Toy Express selling light-up toys, and fun castles for the kids. Local restaurants will also be open for meal and adult beverage services, and we encourage you to book in advance.

“The festivities kick off at 8:30 pm, with Mayor Francis delivering the opening remarks at 9:00 pm. The celebration will continue until 11:59 pm, with the town counting down to midnight, the sparkling onion descending to usher in the new year, and the town clock tolling for the first time in years. A lively music set will follow until 1 a.m.

“The public can get updates at corpstgeorge.bm/nye2024. Wishing you a joyous New Year celebration in the Historic Town of St. George and Related Fortifications!”
