Tanker Diverts Due To Sick Crew Member
The tanker Zoilo – traveling from Texas to Amsterdam — diverted to Bermuda due to a crew member’s medical emergency.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] spokesperson said, “The Maltese registered tanker Zoilo currently 150 miles north of Bermuda advises that she is diverting to the island at a speed of 11 knots as a result of a crew member requiring medical attention. Further details on the patient’s condition and the 183 meter long ship’s maneuverability are gathered by the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre watchstander while the ship also works to appoint a local agent.
“The Zoilo arrives in Five Fathom Hole at approximately 8:20pm that evening and the male crewman is disembarked by pilot ladder to the pilot boat before being transported ashore to Ordnance Island, St. George’s and into the care of waiting ambulance staff at 8:50pm. The Zoilo with her cargo of ultra low sulphur diesel and 22 remaining crew, resumes her voyage from Port Arthur, Texas to Amsterdam.”
