SailGP Teams Partner With Local Clubs

The ten SailGP teams competing in the upcoming Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix – taking place at Morgan’s Point on May 4-5 – have partnered with local clubs and community groups as part of the global league’s ‘Adopt a Club’ program.

A spokesperson said, “Through the program – which is part of the global league’s youth and community outreach Program Inspire – Club members will look forward to visiting the teams’ bases at the SailGP Tech Site and seeing the high-performance, F50 catamarans – capable of reaching speeds of close to 100 km per hour – up close. In exchange, the ten international teams will also be hosted by the local clubs, learning about their experiences and programs as well as meeting their members.”

The partnerships between clubs and SailGP teams are as follows:

  • East End Mini Yacht-Club – Germany SailGP Team
  • Spanish Point Boat Club – Australia SailGP Team
  • Mid Atlantic Boat Club – ‘Black Foils’ New Zealand SailGP Team
  • Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club – USA SailGP Team
  • Sandy’s Boat Club – Emirates GBR SailGP Team
  • St George’s Dinghy & Sports Club – France SailGP Team
  • Royal Bermuda Yacht Club – Rockwool Denmark SailGP Team
  • West End Sailboat Club – Spain SailGP Team
  • Endeavour West Fort – Canada SailGP Team
  • Endeavour East – Switzerland SailGP Team

Schereene Outerbridge, Head of Event for Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, said, “The Adopt-a-Club program, now in its third year, is an incredible opportunity for local sailors and sailing enthusiasts to get an insight into the world of high performance racing. It’s also a wonderful chance for these international teams to connect and engage with the local community and enjoy our famous Bermudian hospitality.”

The spokesperson said, “The Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix will take place on May 4-5, 2024 with tickets available for purchase at SailGP.com/Bermuda. The event’s festivities include a live concert by soca sensation, Kes the Band, following the opening day of racing.”
