Dennico Hollis On Season Goals And More
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Dennico Hollis has set his sights on scoring 1,000 runs and taking 30 wickets for LOC Hire Stenhousemuir in Scottish cricket this season.
Hollis has started the season in impressive form, scoring 44 not out for the Stenhousemuir Second Xl in the league on Saturday before hitting 23 and claiming three wickets for two runs for the First XI in the CS Scottish Cup on Sunday.
“I’m feeling confident and in a good space with the bat,” Hollis told Bernews.
“My goal is to score 1,000 runs across all formats and take 30 wickets – seven more than I took last season. I want to push myself.
“I’ve worked hard during the winter, not just in the nets but in the gym. Hopefully, I can accomplish my goals.”
The former Bermuda national team all-rounder, who helped Stenhousemuir finish fourth in the Western Premiership One last term, said he hopes to be a regular in the First XI this summer but admits there is fierce competition for places.
“The First XI are looking to improve on last season – we want to win the league,” the left-arm seam bowler said.
“I’m looking to solidify my spot in the first team. I feel as though I’m good enough.
“There’s a lot of competition, and no one can get complacent or feel comfortable. It’s about time the club reached that stage.”
The 35-year-old said he was encouraged by his 44 not out, opening the batting for the Seconds in their ten-wicket win over Galloway Second XI, and believes his experience can benefit his club’s younger players.
“There’s a lot of younger boys in the Second XI, and I’m happy to share any advice with them,” Hollis added.
“I’ll give out one or two pieces of advice. I don’t want to overcrowd their minds with too much information. I’ll save the lectures for training!
