Champion Taekwondo held their annual Tiger Clash with 85 athletes in action.

A spokesperson said, “Champion Taekwondo, under the leadership of Head Master Edmond Johnson, successfully hosted the 3rd Annual Tiger Clash, continuing to establish the event as one of the island’s premier martial arts competitions.

“Now in its third year, Tiger Clash has grown into a key fixture on the local calendar. As the only Taekwondo academy in Bermuda, Champion Taekwondo continues to lead the development of the sport on the island, currently serving over 120 active members. This year’s event saw 85 athletes compete, with an impressive 260 spectators in attendance, creating a strong and energetic atmosphere throughout the day.

“The one-day tournament featured competition across Poomsae [forms], Kyopka [board breaking], and Kyorugi [sparring], with athletes performing across multiple divisions and two rings. From Tiger Tots to advanced ranks, participants demonstrated discipline, technical growth, and sportsmanship.

“At the conclusion of the competition, Jai Burgess-Shakir and Felicity Kiara Buan were named Most Outstanding Athletes of the 2026 Tiger Clash, recognizing their consistency and performance across multiple events.

“Jai Burgess-Shakir delivered a dominant showing in the Pre-Cadet 8–10 male intermediate division, earning three Gold medals in Poomsae, Kyopka, and Kyorugi. His control, timing, and execution across all areas made him one of the most complete performers of the day.

“Felicity Kiara Buan also stood out with a strong and versatile performance, securing a total of three medals, including three Gold and two Bronze across her divisions. Competing in multiple categories, she demonstrated both technical ability and composure under pressure.”

“The growth of Tiger Clash over the past three years reflects the work being done within our academy and the wider community,” said Head Master Edmond Johnson. “We are proud of every athlete who competed. Seeing the level of participation and support this year, with over 80 competitors and more than 250 spectators, shows that Taekwondo in Bermuda continues to move in the right direction.”

The spokesperson said, “The event concluded with a medal ceremony recognizing all participants and celebrating the continued development of Taekwondo on the island.”
