The Governor said, “After over two years away from Langton Hill, I’m delighted that the Government House office returns to its home. I’m very grateful to all those who have made this happen – the repairs were essential and have preserved an important part of Bermuda’s heritage.”

“The office of Governor serves the people of Bermuda, and having this incredible building and its grounds provides me and my team with the best opportunity to do that. I look forward to welcoming Bermudians and visitors to Langton Hill.”

The Government spokesperson said, “After conducting a traditional ‘roof wetting’ ceremony with the project management team, the Governor raised the flag at Government House for the first time in over two years. Having arrived in Bermuda in January 2025, this is the first time the Governor has worked from Government House.

“Government House was designed by architect William Hay and first occupied 133 years ago, in July 1892. The building was closed to carry out critical repairs. The closure also provided the opportunity to upgrade systems to improve its functionality and efficiency.”

No, it was not. It was closed because it was not fit for human habitation after years of neglect by the Department of Public Works.

Renovations were only planned after the Governor moved out. It was a face-saving exercise.
