Bermudian motorcycle racer Aeziah Divine said he gained “valuable experience” racing in the R&G British Talent Cup second round at Donington Park in Leicestershire at the weekend.
Divine, who races for British development team Microlise Cresswell Racing, said he is becoming more comfortable on the Honda NSF250R bike and enjoying racing at full-size circuits in front of thousands of spectators.
The 14-year-old finished 27th and 23rd in his two races in the Moto3 class and said he is looking forward to more valuable racing time when he competes in round three at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk from July 5 to 7.
“Most of the riders I’m up against have been racing [in the class] for three years,” Divine told Bernews.
“They have more experience on this bike and know the tracks, too, which is a big advantage. The bikes are quite different from what I raced previously.”
Divine raced in the Moto5 class in the Finetwork MIR Racing Cup in Spain last season and admits he is still getting to grips with the step up to the Moto3 class in the British Talent Cup.
“The jump has been big, but not too big,” he said. “I got into some good positions this weekend but ran into some issues and got pushed out a little wide, which lost me some time.
“Ideally, I’d like to improve my braking this season and get more used to the bike and tracks.”
The Oxford-based racer hopes to have another two years competing in the British Talent Cup for Derbyshire outfit Microlise Cresswell Racing and said he has relished the experience so far.
“The atmosphere at these tracks is amazing – I’m enjoying it,” he said.
“It’s cool to be racing in front of all these spectators and on tracks where many top riders have raced.”
Divine, who moved with his family to England six years ago to pursue his racing dreams, has returned home this week to pick up a monetary award from the Government at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club tomorrow [May 22].
“I’ll definitely be visiting the Southside track to see how everyone is doing!” he added.
Congratulations Aeziah it sure sounds like you are enjoying your sport. Wishing you more success and financial support in due course.
