Khano Smith’s Rhode Island Enjoy Big Win

Khano Smith’s Rhode Island stunned Louisville City after beating the Eastern Conference leaders 5-2 in the USL Championship on Saturday [June 22].

Smith’s side became the first visiting team to score five goals at the Lynn Family Stadium.

Rhode Island took a 2-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Clay Holstad and Jojea Kwizera.

JJ Williams made it 3-0 after the break before Dyan Mares pulled a goal back for the home side in the 84th minute.

Noah Fuson restored Rhode Island’s three-goal cushion in the 93rd minute before Jake Morris scored Louisville’s second two minutes later.

Rhode Island completed the rout in the sixth minute of added time when Isaac Angking made it 5-2.

Smith, a former Bermuda and New England Revolution winger, was appointed as head coach and general manager of Rhode Island in March last year.

Rhode Island are at home to El Paso Locomotive in the league on Wednesday [June 26].
