Annual Junior Fishing Tournament On August 18
The 2024 Bermuda Anglers Club Annual Junior Fishing Tournament will be held on Sunday, August 18 and is open to any boy or girl under the age of 17.
A spokesperson said, “The 2024 Bermuda Anglers Club Annual Junior Tournament will be held this year on Sunday 18 August and is open to any boy or girl under the age of 17. It’s free to enter. Fishing starts at 8.30am. The weigh in opens at 3pm that day but this time in a new location at The Spanish Point Boat Club [SPBC]. The SPBC will also serve as the location for the prize giving to be held on Saturday 24 August.
“Prizes are up for grabs in several categories for boys and girls, which include fishing from the shore or from a boat.
“Each tournament Bermuda’s young anglers land a wide variety of species from wahoo and tuna to snapper, bream and jacks. The event is a fantastic opportunity for kids, parents and guardians from all parts of our community to mix with one another in a relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere.”
Tournament Director Kip Froud commented, “The 2024 event is being held in memory of our late Club President and good friend, Niel Jones whose life was tragically lost in an accident on the water over the 2023 Cup Match holiday. Niel’s family encouraged donations in support of the 2024 event and to ensure the event will continue for the foreseeable future. I am pleased to say that from 2025, Niel’s brother Colin will spearhead the running of the tournament with support from brother, Wayne and sister, Karen.”
“The tournament is a great chance to communicate the importance of stewardship of our marine resources to Bermuda’s junior anglers. In previous years parents and guardians have gone to great lengths to ensure their children were able to participate.”
The spokesperson said, “Over 100 kids from across the Island are expected to participate with most participants now entering online. Local firms H&H Plumbing and Mechanical Ltd, C-Mart and The Birdcage have come on board as sponsors this year. Other sponsors are expected to be announced soon.
