Column: Thank You Works And Engineering
[Opinion column written by Chris Famous]
There are times that persons make negative comments based on rumours or speculation. Then, there are times that criticism is warranted. It is up to the individuals or organisations to accept where they must step up their game.
Apologies
With that being said, let me apologise to the people of; Devonshire, Smith’s and other eastern parishes. Anyone that has travelled through South Shore Road by the Collector’s Hill Junction had been subjected to some challenging driving. There are loads of technical problems that contributed to this.
Yet, the responsibility still lies with local MPs to see these problems are addressed. So, rightfully many residents have; called, sent text messages, pictures or emailed to vent. It is actually good when MPs receive these messages as it shows their constituents know they can reach out to their respective representatives.
Miles to go
Earlier in June several teams from Works & Engineering [W&E] began to address the situation at the Collector’s Hill junction.
First they removed the old asphalt on both Collector’s Hill, and South Shore Road in between the gas station and the restaurants. Then a liquid substance was put down to bond the new asphalt to the surface. Once the new asphalt was put down a seven ton steam roller was used to squeeze out air and moisture.
It takes a few hours for the fresh asphalt to dry or cure.
No doubt, there are many other areas around the island that are in need of attention. Both the government and W&E teams are fully aware of this. So, whenever you do see them honk and tell them thanks as they will be working hard in the heat. For those who have time to stop, please take them some cold water. They are most deserving of it.

Never should’ve been allowed to get that bad in the first place. It’s to be seen how long it’ll last.
Well Chris, what’s your take on the wall rebuild just west of Waterlot on Middle Rd. You know, the project that went many months over schedule. I passed through those traffic lights several times and the lights were the only thing working! No sign of any workers or work going on for the majority of the times I drove through. Oh, and don’t worry about honking horns and friendly waves – that, W&E are very good at!
Chris Famous congratulating the PLP Government for doing its job feels like me thanking my wife for praising me.
Don’t worry it will be a few pot holes remaining to stick the oba in come next election.
“it will be a few pot holes remaining to stick the oba in come next election”
Only a few?
“it will be…”?
What language do they teach in Bermuda these days?
