Photos: Bermuda Before Paralympic Opening
Bermuda’s Paralympic team is preparing to take part in the opening ceremony today [Aug 28] in Paris, France, with Jessica Lewis set to proudly carry our flag. Joining her in the opening ceremony will be Bermuda teammate Yushae DeSilva-Andrade as well as coaches and local officials. The opening ceremony is scheduled to get underway at 3.00pm Bermuda time.
The official Paralympic website noted, “For the first time in the history of the Paralympics, the Opening Ceremony will take place outside of a stadium. The iconic Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysees will serve as the backdrop when athletes from around the world take part in the Parade of Nations. There will be surprise performances and dazzling dancing routines featuring dozens of dancers with disabilities, all in front of a crowd of 50,000 spectators. There will be around 4,400 athletes from a record 168 delegations. Three NPCs – Eritrea, Kiribati and Kosovo – will make their Paralympic debut in the French capital.”
Yushae DeSilva-Andrade will be our first athlete in action, she will match up against Poland’s Kinga Koza at 1.10pm Bermuda time on Thurs [Aug 29] in the Women’s Individual – BC1 Pool C boccia match, with Jessica Lewis set to compete next week.
