Scott Barnes On Rock Island Title Glory
Scott Barnes added another chapter to his impressive legacy at the Xtream Rock Island Grand Prix, securing his tenth title at North America’s largest kart street race last weekend.
Barnes, competing over two days in the Quad Cities—a metropolitan area straddling the Mississippi River between Illinois and Iowa—claimed victory in the Briggs L206 Light class and earned an impressive third place in the prestigious King of the Rock – Briggs L206 class.
Despite entering seven classes and qualifying in the top ten for six of them, Barnes faced a string of challenges on Sunday. Reflecting on his experience, he admitted that luck was not on his side, but his tenth title more than compensated for the setbacks.
“I had nothing but bad luck from the first race when a guy spun out and collected me when I was third,” Barnes told Bernews. “In another race, a guy jumped on my back bumper at the start and took me out of the race.”
However, Barnes’ fortunes took a turn for the better as the event progressed.
“It was cool to finish third in the King of Rock – the biggest class of the day – and finishing the day with a win in the L206 Light was huge,” Barnes added.
“One win at Rock Island will erase a full day of bad luck! It made the trip worthwhile for sure. I was happy with my results.”
