Team Competing In Robotics Olympics in Greece

[Updated with video] Bermuda’s National Robotics Team – Sage DeSousa, Ava Simons, Aleshka Urrutia, Max Kemp and Ryan Williams — is competing at the First Global Robotics Olympics in Greece.

A spokesperson said, “On Monday September 23, 2024, Bermuda’s National Robotics Team embarked on an exciting journey to Athens, Greece, to compete in the highly anticipated First Global Robotics Olympics. This annual competition gathers teams from 192 countries, offering students the opportunity to showcase their innovative engineering and robotics skills on an international stage.

“Representing Bermuda are five talented students: Sage DeSousa [Team Captain], Ava Simons, Aleshka Urrutia, Max Kemp and Ryan Williams, who have worked tirelessly alongside the 20 strong home team in preparation for this prestigious event. The team will be guided by mentors Sloane Johnson from Connectech Coding and Luis Corriea from XBTO, both of whom have provided support throughout their training alongside home team mentor Za’ra Cardell.”

“I couldn’t be more proud of the Bermuda National Robotics Team. These students have worked tirelessly, demonstrating remarkable engineering expertise and creativity throughout their preparation. Their dedication to innovation and collaboration is truly inspiring, and we are confident they will represent Bermuda with excellence on the global stage. The spokesperson said, “This marks Bermuda’s fifth appearance in the competition. Currently ranked #81 worldwide, the team has outperformed several larger nations, including the USA and Canada, reflecting their impressive capabilities and dedication.”

“We are incredibly proud of the Bermuda team’s accomplishments, and their global ranking is a testament to the hard work and dedication they’ve shown,” said Tanya Bule, HSBC Executive Committee member. “HSBC is honored to support the talented students of the local Robotics programme as they represent Bermuda on the world stage.”
