Over 100 Rowers Compete In BIG Regatta

The Bermuda Pilot Gig Club’s BIG Regatta kicked off with intense competition as 16 crews were in action.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Pilot Gig Club’s BIG Regatta opened with thrilling competition on Day 1, despite challenging weather conditions. Northeasterly winds exceeding 20 knots and occasional squalls put the crews to the test, but the sun shone through providing respite. A total of 16 crews – 10 women’s and 6 men’s – competed in this exciting regatta, with strong performances across all events.

Day 1 Final Results

  • In the Ladies Plate Final, the competition was fierce, with the following results:
    • 1st Place: 3D’s
    • 2nd Place: Triangle [Mixed Crew]
    • 3rd Place: Dartmouth
  • The Men’s Runner-Up Final featured a close race with local crews:
    • 1st Place: Able Seaman [Bermuda]
    • 2nd Place: BPGC Men’s [Bermuda]
  • The Ladies Runner-Up Final was an international affair with impressive showings from both Bermuda and visiting teams:
    • 1st Place: Tamar River
    • 2nd Place: Dirty Oars [Bermuda]
    • 3rd Place: Row-dacious [Bermuda]
    • 4th Place: Oars on Tour
  • In the highlight of the day, the Ladies Final, Bermuda’s local crew showcased their strength:

  • The Men’s Final wrapped up Day 1 with a thrilling finish:

“Despite the tough conditions, all crews displayed remarkable determination and skill. Day 2 of racing promises even more excitement as crews disband for the day and row with new people for the Spanish Point Mixer on Wednesday. Day 3 of racing will see all original crews continue to battle for top honours in the St. George’s Sprint on Saturday, October 26th. The Bermuda International Gig [BIG] Regatta 2024 is a three-day event from October 20th to 26th.
