Ministry Urges Residents To Stay Prepared

“With Hurricane Milton now considered a potential threat to Bermuda, the Ministry of National Security reminds residents that hurricane season remains in effect until 30 November, and it is essential to stay attentive to personal and family hurricane preparations,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks.

A Government spokesperson said, “Hurricane Milton passed over the State of Florida and has now moved into the Atlantic Ocean. The latest Bermuda Weather Service forecast shows the storm passing approximately 138 nautical miles to our South at 9 p.m. on Friday, 11 October, as a post-tropical cyclone.

“Residents should monitor the Bermuda Weather Service forecasts in case of any changes in the next few days.”

“While the latest forecasts from the Bermuda Weather Service indicate that Hurricane Milton will significantly weaken and pass to the south of Bermuda, we must not become complacent,” added Minister Weeks.

“Weather systems are inherently unpredictable and can change suddenly. It is crucial that we remain prepared and informed.”

The spokesperson said, “Residents are encouraged to:

  • Review and update their hurricane preparedness plans.
  • Check and restock hurricane supply kits.
  • Stay informed by monitoring official weather updates from the Bermuda Weather Service.

“Please see the Government of Bermuda’s official guidance on hurricane preparedness for a comprehensive list of recommended supplies and additional advice on hurricane preparation.”

How about “Residents urge the Government to be prepared”. Not just for this storm but at all times. Clean out the drains on the roads as a starter. Do your jobs that taxpayer pay for. There is no reason apart from incompetence for the floods that occurred this week to happen.
