BTA Statement On Bermudiana Announcement
“While we are disappointed that the anticipated 110 units at Bermudiana Beach Resort will no longer be added to our hotel stock, we remain committed to promote Bermuda’s hospitality offerings,” the BTA said.
This follows after Minister of Public Works Lt/Col David Burch announced that a “decision was made to pivot the Bermudiana Beach Resort to residential rental units.” The property, originally called Grand Atlantic, was built over a decade ago as a housing development, only one unit was sold, the plans were then adjusted to make it a hotel development, and the plans have now adjusted to make the property into residential rental units.
BTA CEO Tracy Berkeley said, “We acknowledge the announcement by Minister of Public Works, David Burch regarding the pivot of the Bermudiana Beach Resort from a boutique hotel project to residential rental units.
“We appreciate the government’s commitment to addressing Bermuda’s housing needs, however, we must also recognize the impact this decision has on Bermuda’s tourism sector and our efforts to meet the demand for hotel accommodations.
“While we are disappointed that the anticipated 110 units at Bermudiana Beach Resort will no longer be added to our hotel stock, we remain committed to promote Bermuda’s hospitality offerings. Our team will continue to collaborate with our existing industry partners to expand options for leisure and group travel markets.”
Oh , come on. You should be fuming, you should be tearing the PLP a new one because of this. Too scared? Then you are not the right person for the job.
The BTA are beholden to the PLP Government. The law was changed to make sure that the BTA was not independent and so that it would toe the party line.
I can agree with that. But I would add that the pain of towing the PLP line is made up for by six-figure salaries + bonuses, lifetime job security, and no real performance accountability. Oh, the pain of it all! The pain!
“our hotel stock?” When did the BTA start owning and managing hotels?
Is this the best that the BTA can come up with, they are “Disappointed”?
Disappointed? How can we grow an industry if there are no accommodations for people. This means the hotels will conintue to charge insane prices for their crapy properties. The PLP has no plan and no vision for this country. The current Tourism Minister should go back to fetching the Premiers bags as he is unqualified and useless.
“How can we grow an industry”
We don’t want to “grow an industry”. That would mean bringing in those nasty foreigners we don’t want
