Les Ferdinand, one of the top strikers in the history of the English Premier League, will regale local football fans with tales from his decorated football career during a special event on Saturday [November 9].

Organised by the Bermuda Football Coaches Association [BFCA], A Speakers Night With Les Ferdinand will be held at the Pier 6 Complex on Front Street, Hamilton, starting at 5.30 pm.

The event will raise funds for the BFCA to continue providing local coaches opportunities to further their education and pursue their badges.

A moderated one-on-one discussion with Ferdinand will be held from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm, with questions from the audience until 8.30 pm.

Ferdinand won 17 caps for England, scoring five goals, and made his name at Queens Park Rangers as a lethal marksman, attracting interest from several top English clubs.

He signed for Newcastle United for £6 million [$7,750,000] in 1995, netting 29 goals in his first season on Tyneside, almost inspiring them to win the Premier League title.

They led by 12 points at one stage but were famously overhauled by Manchester United in the final three months of the campaign.

Ferdinand, who formed a formidable partnership with Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, scored 50 goals in 84 matches before signing for Tottenham Hotspur for £6 million in 1997.

He helped Spurs win the League Cup in 1999, defeating Leicester City 1-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.

During the latter stages of his career, Ferdinand had stints at West Ham United, Leicester, Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Watford.

After retiring from playing, Ferdinand became head of football operations at QPR in 2014 before being appointed as director of football a year later.

He was instrumental in securing Nahki Wells’s services on two loan spells at the West London outfit during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

Tickets for the event are $80 from PTIX.

As part of the fundraising weekend, the BFCA will also host the BFCA’s First Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Sunday at the Belmont Hill’s Golf Course.

The tournament format will be a 12.30pm shotgun start with a maximum of 20 foursomes.
