Govt On St. David’s Lighthouse Restoration
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is providing an update on the restoration of St. David’s Lighthouse, following the completion of the new telecommunications tower structure.
A Government spokesperson said, “The new tower represents an important step in the restoration process. Before work can begin on the Lighthouse itself, telecommunications equipment currently located there must be relocated to the new tower.
“Construction of the tower shelter and generator pad is underway, along with the installation of the necessary telecommunications equipment. All tower-related works are currently anticipated to be completed by December 2026, and the restoration works on the lighthouse is expected to begin shortly thereafter.”
Jaché Adams, Minister of Public Works and Environment, said, “St. David’s Lighthouse is important to the St. David’s community and to Bermuda more broadly, and people understandably want to see it restored and reopened.
“The completion of the new tower structure is an important step forward. It provides the infrastructure needed to relocate the equipment currently housed at the Lighthouse and allows us to move closer to beginning the restoration itself.”
The Government spokesperson said, “Once the relocation process is complete, technical officers will be able to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the Lighthouse. This will allow the Ministry to determine the full scope of restoration work required and develop a more informed project timeline.”
Minister Adams said, “There is still important technical work to be completed before we can establish the full extent of the restoration required. Once the Lighthouse has been cleared, our officers will be in a better position to fully assess the structure and determine the work that needs to be done.
“What is important is that this project is moving forward. The completion of the new tower structure represents tangible progress and clears the way for the next phase of work. We remain committed to restoring St. David’s Lighthouse and getting this important landmark reopened to the public.”
