Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons will showcase his skills on the island for the first time when he faces Mexican Alexandra Perez at The Shed in Dockyard on February 15.
Simmons has five successive wins since turning professional, earning a third-round stoppage victory over Nigerian Nosa Divine Nehikhare in Houston, Texas, last month.
It was the first time Simmons, a light heavyweight, had fought past the opening round.
The 27-year-old, who trains at Bone Breaker Gym in Morganton, North Carolina, said he has long been exploring the possibility of fighting in Bermuda with promoters Epic Entertainment.
“I’ve been saying for some time that I was looking forward to fighting back home,” Simmons told Bernews.
“My team has been talking to the promoters for a while and the timing feels right.
“It puts an extra spice on the fight, being able to box at home.”
His opponent, Perez, boasts a professional record of 9-8 and is coming off an impressive streak of four knockout wins. Simmons is well aware of the challenge ahead.
“I’m sure he thinks he’s on a tear right now after four KOs,” Simmons added. “He’s Mexican, so I’m expecting him to have a particular style.”
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons grew up in Somerset, Bermuda, with his Bermudian parents before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother at age 12.
His amateur boxing career was marked by notable achievements, including runner-up finishes at the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
