‘No School Is An Island’ On February 19-20
The Chatmore British International School, in association with the Council of British International Schools [COBIS], is set to host the “No School Is an Island” Atlantic-Caribbean Education Conference on February 19-20, 2025, at Rosewood Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “Under the theme “Collaboration. Cohesion. Confidence.”, the conference aims to unite educators, policymakers, and community leaders to address the evolving educational landscape and its impact on local and regional communities.
“We are excited to see delegates registering from Jamaica, Cayman, UK, Bahamas and New York. In the Atlantic region we are intentionally targeting locations that have a direct flight to the island and our local airline BermudAir offers a great opportunity for more delegates to make the trip. In our conversations with schools, we realize that many educators on the east coast United States still do not realize how close Bermuda is to the mainland. Events like this mean exposure for Bermuda in a different demographic.”
Conference Highlights:
- Student Panel Discussions: Local secondary students will share insights on artificial intelligence [AI] and its future implications, followed by a multigenerational conversation among delegates exploring diverse perspectives on AI.
- Live International Session: A live telecast interview with students and school leaders from Ukraine, who continue their educational journey from a bunker beneath their school, exemplifying resilience and hope amid unforeseen challenges.
Local Presenters:
- Dr. Jahnae Harvey of Tomorrow’s Voices discussing “An Inclusive Community.”
- Dr. Daniel Cavanaugh from Bermuda College presenting a “Mental Health Research Overview.”
- Mikal Minors, CEO, Better Digital is leading a session on “Intergenerational AI.”
- Mr. David Horan, Principal of Warwick Academy, moderator for all school student panel.
- Opening performance by the Northlands School Choir and a plenary by Educational Gombeys led by Showande Butterfield.
- A session titled “Bali to Bermuda – Learning Freedom for Early Years Education” by Alandra Swan, 2019 BEN Teacher of the Year.

“Our community is undergoing significant reform, not solely due to changes in our local school system,” said Angela L. Fubler, Programme Innovation Lead at Chatmore School Development Association [Registered Charity #989]. “This conference is timed to bring a hopeful, exciting and supportive start to the year, emphasizing that cohesive collaboration is imperative in the ongoing process of change. It contributes to the confidence we need to build our island community and allows us to share successes and challenges among stakeholders in our local, regional, and international communities.”
Sponsorship Opportunities:
The spokesperson said, “We extend gratitude to our kind sponsors—National Institute for Teaching and Education [NITE], a part of Coventry University Group; Fidelity International Ltd.; UK Study Options; Heinemann; NWEA; HMH; and our private benefactors—whose generous support has been instrumental in helping us to bring the “No School Is an Island” Conference to fruition. Understanding that education reform is an ongoing process, the conference emphasizes the importance of cultivating a culture of learning that encompasses the entire local and global community.
