Rotary Interact Club Plants Bermuda Cedar
Hamilton Rotary Interact Club members planted a Bermuda Cedar at Warwick Academy as part of the Rotary Clubs’ centenary tree-planting project.
A spokesperson said, “On Sunday, 8th December 2024, a dozen young people joined with Rotarians at Warwick Academy to plant, on the school grounds, a beautiful and healthy young Bermuda Cedar [juniperus bermudiana]. These students from Warwick Academy, aged 12 to 17, are members of the Hamilton Rotary Interact Club. They are noteworthy for their motivation to give service to their community.”
Past President of the Hamilton Rotary Club and Centennial Committee Member, Dr. George Cook explained, “The tree-planting constituted one small part in a large project of the centenary celebrations to plant across Bermuda 100 of our endemic trees: Cedars, Palmettos, and Olivewoods. The project aims at more than celebrating the centenary; more importantly, the object is also to engage young Bermudians in helping to advance our future by participating in similar community events.”
The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Cedar was sourced from the Bermuda National Trust. Their Head of Natural Heritage, Mr. Myles Darrell, also actively engaged in the planting. Part of his mission is to involve more young Bermudians in efforts to protect and enhance Bermuda’s threatened natural heritage.
“The Rotary Clubs of Bermuda look forward to the participation of young people as more such collaborative tree-planting events are held across these islands.”
