Rugby Community Pays Tribute To Coach

January 31, 2025

The Bermuda rugby community has paid tribute to professional coach James Clarke by hosting three memorial matches at the National Sports Centre last weekend.

Mr Clarke died recently just months after moving to the island after being appointed operations director of the Bermuda Rugby Football Union.

“Yesterday, we came together to pay tribute to the memory of James Clarke,” Bermuda Rugby posted on social media.

“In the short time James spent with us as our Rugby Operations Director, he became a well-respected, highly valued, and integral member of our rugby family.

“James truly immersed himself at every level of the game – whether it was working with the youngest players just starting their rugby journey, supporting club teams on game days, or sharing his expertise with coaches and referees.

“His passion and dedication were evident in everything he did, and the impact he made in such a short time has been immeasurable across our community.

“His loss is deeply felt, especially by those who knew him as a mentor and friend.

“Yesterday’s turnout was a powerful reminder of the strength of the rugby community, as we came together as a family to support one another during this time of immense loss and sadness.

“In the weeks ahead, we know James’ absence will be deeply felt across Bermuda Rugby, but together, we will honour his memory by continuing his work and ensuring that his vision for the sport becomes a lasting part of his legacy.”
