Petition On Proposed Closure Of Gilbert Institute

February 3, 2025 | 0 Comments

An online petition has been launched about the proposed closure of Gilbert Institute, saying that “keeping its doors open is not just an option, but a necessity.”

The plan to close Gilbert Institute was initially announced in 2021, in 2024 the Education Minister said it would close in June 2025, and a plan to convert the site into a seniors’ care facility was announced last year in the House of Assembly, and gained further attention recently when the Premier discussed it in a press conference.

The petition says, “We, who deeply value the role of education in shaping a brighter future for our children, have been struck with concerns over the proposed closure of the Gilbert Institute. This esteemed establishment has served as the cornerstone of our children’s education, propelling them towards success.

“Gilbert Institute has consistently demonstrated its value over the years, standing not just as a hall of learning but as a sanctuary that nurtures and educates future leaders of our society. Its doors have remained open as a beacon of light, guiding scholars on their academic journey. Holding the profound belief that education is not merely about grades, but about nurturing intellect, fostering critical thinking, and developing leadership skills, Gilbert Institute has invariably proven itself as a pillar of our community.

“Therefore, keeping its doors open is not just an option, but a necessity. Let us not turn our backs on this institution that has helped shape our society’s future leaders. Let us stand together to preserve this sanctuary for our children and the generations to come.

“Protect our children’s future and the legacy of Gilbert Institute. Sign this petition to oppose its proposed closure. Your signature matters, it represents a brighter future.”
