Fisherman Rescued After Vessel Sinks
A fisherman was rescued after his vessel struck an unknown object and sank near Challenger Bank.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] spokesperson said, “Monday, 10th March, 9:45 pm. The operator of the 50ft Local Fishing Vessel Attitude Adjustment contacted RCC Bermuda, from onboard the Fishing Vessel Fullish. He reported that they were heading back from Challenger Bank as Attitude Adjustment had struck an unknown floating object and was now sinking.
“The operator of the sinking fishing boat was single handed onboard, and had made a broadcast on the locally used fishing channels, Marine VHF Channel 08 which was acknowledged by Fishing Vessel Fullish. The assisting fishing boat was quickly on scene and on realizing the seriousness of the situation rescued the fisherman and transferred equipment from the boat as it was considered likely to sink.
“The RBR Coast Guard were advised and Fullish went directly to Coast Guard Head Quarters at Scenic House to ensure the safety of the stricken survivor from Attitude Adjustment. Unfortunately Attitude Adjustment is assumed to have now sunk and RCC Bermuda has issued a Notice To Mariners regarding the floating hazard to navigation.”
