Support Special Olympics Polar Plunge
Special Olympics Bermuda is gearing up for its third Polar Plunge, inviting the community to “Get Freezin’ for a Reason” while supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities.
A spokesperson said, “Special Olympics Bermuda is just days away from its third Polar Plunge and is calling on the community to come out and “Get Freezin’ for a Reason!” Following the success of the Polar Plunge in 2021 and 2023, we’re excited to host Polar Plunge 2025 this Saturday, March 15, 2025 [postponed from March 8].
“As a registered charity [#972], Special Olympics Bermuda provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our mission is to create opportunities for athletes to enhance their physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and connect with their families and the broader community.
“The Polar Plunge is part of a Special Olympics trademarked global tradition typically held on January 1. While other regions host this event under frigid conditions, Bermuda benefits from much warmer plunge conditions despite being outside of the typical Bermuda swim period.. The increase in year-round early morning swimmers and community ‘plunges’ around the island speaks to our active community and willingness to ‘Get Freezin’ ‘ and we’re hopeful a last-minute surge in registrations.
“Participants are encouraged to sign up individually or as a team, donning creative costumes while raising pledges for their bravery. Participants will be eligible for exciting prizes in categories like Best Costume, Best Team Costumes, and Biggest Fundraiser!
“The two-hour event will feature DJ LaJefa, MC Mr. Fotogenic, invigorating warm-ups with Fit and Fierce Athletics, hot cocoa by Dutch Pops, a bake sale, and on-site raffles.” Click here for more information.
