BUEI To Feature Seashells At Kids Hour Event
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] will host Kids Hour this Saturday [April 19] at 11.00am and 2.00pm, highlighting the ‘sensational world of seashells.’
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] invites you to join us for Kids Hour this Saturday, April 19th at 11am and 2pm where we will dive into the sensational world of seashells.
“Kids Hours, sponsored by BF&M, are held on the third Saturday of each month from January to September. Each month highlights a different ocean-themed topic and includes a short film, book reading and fun activities for children ages three and up.
“Do you know that seashells are part of our natural living history? For April, we are screening two short films: ’15 STUNNING Beach Shell Creatures’ which rates the most beautiful seashells ever found; and ‘How Seashells Are Made’ that explains how shells are formed and evolve in nature.
“This month’s book, ‘Secrets of the Seashore’ by Carron Brown and Alyssa Nassner, is a wonderfully illustrated Shine-A-Light Book that explores some of the many animals and plants living in and around the ocean’s edge. Afterwards, you can visit the Oceans Gift Shop to pick up your own copy of the book, an ocean-themed stuffy and other educational toys that make learning fun.
“Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members and $5 per child for non-members, and includes admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre where you can immerse yourself in the expansive shell room, featuring one of the world’s largest privately owned seashell collections with more than 1,200 specimens. Also note, parents and caregivers must remain on site and supervise their children at all times.
“Space is limited and advanced registration is encouraged by emailing giftshop@buei.bm or calling 294-0204. Visit BUEI.org/kidshour to learn more and be sure to mark your calendar for May 17th when Kids Hour Saturday will crawl and claw our way through the crafty world of crabs!”
