Planning Application For Marina Extension
A planning application has been submitted for a proposed marina extension located between the Hamilton Princess marina and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club marina.
A document submitted with the application stated, “Westend Properties Ltd. is seeking to expand the existing marina which supports 50 plus vessels as well as a fuel dock, and which more recently received permission to add eight 60-foot long floating dock fingers on the southern side of the outer breakwater arm as temporary berths for larger visiting/local yachts/superyachts.
“It is on this outer side that the Proponent is now proposing extending the marina to accommodate seventy-six vessels of up to 80 feet in length in permanent berths. This will be achieved through the addition of a new outer floating concrete arm [wave attenuator] held in place by reinforced piles driven into the seafloor, located on the southern side of and largely parallel to the existing concrete marina arm.
“Within this protective outer breakwater, which will provide protection to the marina from the more exposed south and west exposures, a suite of floating finger docks will be held in place with piles. In total, thirteen 80-foot boats, ten 60-foot boats, seventeen 40-foot boats and thirty six 30-foot boats can be accommodated. The area of the floating dock is 13,870 s.f.; the wave attenuator [outer arm] covers an area of 5,085 s.f.
“The proposed marina extension lies between the Hamilton Princess marina to the west, and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club [RBYC] marina to the east.”
