Two Workers Injured In Industrial Accident
[Updated] Two men have been transported to hospital with injuries “which have been described as serious” following an “industrial incident on the compound of the Southampton Princess Hotel,” the police have confirmed.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:45am on Sunday, April 13, 2025, police received reports of an industrial incident on the compound of the Southampton Princess Hotel.
“Upon arrival officers were informed there was an accident involving an electrical transformer, resulting in two workers being injured.
“The two injured persons, both males, were transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to their injuries, which have been described as serious.”
Update: A hotel spokesperson said, “We are very sorry to report that there was an electrical incident earlier today at the Fairmont Southampton that resulted in two employees being injured. Unfortunately, one of the injured is now in intensive care; our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. All power has been switched off at the property and BELCO is at the scene. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.”
Update 4.45pm: BELCO Managing Director Shelly Leman said: “At approximately 10.40 this morning BELCO received notification of an outage at the Fairmont Southampton Property. On arrival, BELCO crews were informed that there had been an accident involving a contractor working on the hotel’s internal electrical network and that injuries had been sustained to workers at the site. BELCO crews isolated the hotel’s network from the substation and have provided technical resources to support the hotel and police with their investigations. At this time I would like to offer my thoughts to those who have been injured.”
