BBA Marks 50th Year With Awards Ceremony
The Bermuda Bicycle Association celebrated its 50th anniversary by honouring top cyclists and volunteers at its 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony, highlighting standout performances across all levels of the sport.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Bicycle Association [BBA] marked a major milestone this year with its 50th anniversary and capped the celebration by honouring the island’s standout cyclists and volunteers at the 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony held on Saturday, May 4 at Docksiders.
“The BBA recognised exceptional achievements across all levels of local cycling, from promising juniors to elite international competitors, as well as the dedicated volunteers and organisers who keep the sport thriving.
Most Improved Junior – Charlotte Millington
“In addition to being the dominant junior female and a standout among all women racing in Bermuda, Charlotte won all three road national titles. Her obvious progression in local racing demonstrated her growth in 2024 and suggests a highly successful 2025 season is ahead.
Most Improved Adult – Nicholas Narraway
“Nic’s 2024 season was capped with a silver medal in the Under 23 time trial in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil in the Panamerican Road Championships. Nic also took home the silver medal in the U23 time trial at the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in Guyana. As he moves into the elite category in 2025 his time trialing prowess will becoming more evident as he goes head-to-head with Kaden and Conor.
Club Person of the Year – Lesley White
“The BBA is fortunate to have individuals like Lesley who are committed to making our events safe for all competitors. In addition to her regular volunteering at local events, Lesley has organized the marshals for the Bermuda Day Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race for the last three years, making our most visible event one with maximum security for competitors and spectators.
Race Organiser of the Year – Darren “Shakee” Glasford
“Coordinating the approximately 30 BBA sanctioned local races on the event calendar has been the work of Shakee Glasford of late. The job brings together all the clubs to develop a calendar, oversee the allocation of events, and coordinate the engagement of public services such as BPS and Works & Engineering. Shakee’s organization skills and positive perspective to find good racecourses while considering the impact on the local population has given us a function group of courses while harnessing the necessary resources to deliver a range of events.
Race Official of the Year – Nigel Godfrey
“Once again, Nigel has demonstrated his effective officiating methods in overseeing local competitions. His calm and knowledgeable approach to officiating. His post-event reports are insightful and the continued growth of the other BBA officials.
Junior Rider of the Year – Jackson Langley
“For junior cyclists, Jackson is the man to beat. In 2024 he won all the national championship events which he entered, demonstrating his superior skills and fitness on the bike.
Female Rider of the Year – Gabriella Arnold
“In 2024 Gabby took home two silver medals from the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in Guyana, and captured the road race championship title in June. Racing with LA Sweat, she also enjoyed success in US gravel racing, adding to her success across multiple disciplines.
Male Rider of the Year – Kaden Hopkins
“Kaden had a strong 2024, winning both the road race and time trial national titles in Bermuda, 4th in the Panamerican time trial championships, and 6th in the road race at the same competition. Additionally, he won the silver medal in the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships time trial in Guyana and two stages of the tour of Guadeloupe with his team Vendee U. Kaden leads a strong field of local racers who are now setting marks internationally.
