Athletes Named For Island Games In Orkney
A team of local athletes will compete in seven sports at the International Island Games in Orkney next month.
The Island Games will be held on the archipelago off the north coast of mainland Scotland from July 12 to 18.
In athletics, Bermuda will be represented by Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby winners Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay, multiple Carifta Games medal-winner Jake Brislane, Tony Bean and Philip Woolins.
The island’s badminton line-up will feature Danial Hughes, Aaron Simmons, Rishi Gadimwale, Jin Sun, Desi Darrell, Emma Moran-Lee, See Ju Chan, Somers Stevenson, Rebecca Pantaney and Anne Corbett.
In lawn bowls, David Leach, who won bronze at the previous Games in Guernsey, the Channel Islands, will be joined by Braden Rustand, Dave Barton, Tamara Leach, Jinhwa Rustand and Jude Barton.
Golfers Jarryd Dillas, Damian Palanyandi, Eric West, Tracey Burgess, Katrin Burnie, Morgan Lightbourne and Sienna Mosquera will be among the travelling contingent; meanwhile squash will be represented by Taylor Carrick, Neil Pohman, and Brian Darling.
Megan Berry will compete in triathlon. Jon Beard will serve as the chef de mission, with Juanita Blee travelling as the general secretary.
The Bermuda Football Association will announce its women’s national team and men’s under-23 squad shortly.
Orkney will welcome around 2,000 athletes from 24 island groups to compete across 12 sports.
It will be the first time in the Games’ 40-year history that Orkney has hosted the biennial event.
