BELCO Announces 2025 Scholarship Recipients

BELCO has awarded $190,000 in scholarships and education awards to 22 students.

A spokesperson said, “At Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO or the Company], the company has built a culture of giving that extends far beyond its core business operations. BELCO is driven by its commitment to serve the local community and operate in the long-term public interest. It’s this unwavering commitment to Bermuda’s future that drives the company to invest in the island’s most valuable resource: its young people and their education.

“BELCO today announced the recipients of the Company’s annual scholarship awards with a total of $190,000 awarded to 22 students. The scholarship and education awards recipients are as follows:

“Jasmin Williams is the recipient of the Hon C. Eugene Cox Post-Graduate Environmental Studies, Sustainability & Development Scholarship, which is valued at $25,000 for one year. Jasmin is pursuing a Master of Cybersecurity at the University of Kent.

“Andreaz Glasgow is the recipient of the A.T. Oughton Post-Graduate Scholarship, which is valued at $25,000 for one year. Andreaz will study for a Master of Business Administration at Long Island University.

“Kyle McGhee is the recipient of the D. Pimentel Internal Scholarship. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 for three years. Kyle will study for a BSc Business Administration at Walden University.

“The BELCO Educational Awards were established in the early 1980s for academic studies leading to the award of an undergraduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math [STEM]. The purpose of these awards is to recognise the scholar’s desire to further their knowledge in the STEM fields and to provide an opportunity for their insight, knowledge and experience to be shared within the Company and in the wider community. The recipients of the 2025 Educational Awards are as follows:

BELCO STEM Education Awards – $15,000

  • Tejah Bean – Bachelor of Computer Science, Lancaster University.

BELCO STEM Education Awards – $10,000

  • Gabrielle Turchiaro – Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Western University.
  • Za’Nyah Khan – Bachelor of Science in Physics, University of Leicester.
  • Azari Easton – Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Dalhousie University.

BELCO STEM Education Awards – $7,500

  • Seth Hardtman – Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Morgan State University.
  • Racheal Betschart – Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, University of Exeter.
  • Christopher Pitcher – Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Brunel University.
  • Thomas Marshall – Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Management, Loughborough University.

BELCO STEM Education Awards – $5,000

  • Joshua Fleming – Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Cambrian College.
  • Daniel Cabral – Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering [Co-op], Dalhousie University.
  • Neriah Bean – Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics & Engineering, Oakwood University.
  • Maya Thomas-Fubler – Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Spelman College.
  • Jack Dallas – Bachelor of Engineering [Hons] in Mechanical Engineering, University of Bath.
  • Samantha Rance – Bachelor of Science in Engineering, University of Sheffield.
  • Einnajae Caines – Bachelor of Science [Hons] in Mathematics, Nottingham Trent University.
  • Benjamin Crofton – Bachelor of Science in General Engineering with Interest in Aerospace, Virginia Tech.
  • Riccai Allen – Bachelor of Commerce [Hons] in Technology Management, Ontario Tech University.
  • Davis Barnes – Bachelor of Commerce, St. Mary’s University.
  • Seth Daniels – Bachelor of Engineering [Hons] in Aeronautical Engineering with Foundation, University of West England.
