BMDS Presents ‘Ordinary Days’ This July
Daylesford Theatre will be filled with song this month as the Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society’s production of Ordinary Days takes the stage.
Paige Steinlet, the director of the show, said Ordinary Days is an intimate, understated musical that features just four actors and a single pianist, musical director Jym Brier.
“It was a show that came onto my radar back in 2008 or 2009 and I fell in love with it and I have been holding on to it ever since,” she said.
“When the time came to direct something with BMDS, it was one of the first things that popped into my mind.”
The spokesperson said, “The musical, which features music and lyrics by American composer Adam Gwon, tells the story of four characters struggling with their circumstances whose lives intertwine in New York City.
“While many musicals boast large casts and elaborate choreography, Paige said the focus of this show is on the story, told through song.”
“It prioritises storytelling over the whole showmanship element with sparkly outfits and jazz-hands,” she said.
“It really allows us to delve into the human side of it and maybe bring musicals to that portion of the world that don’t believe musicals are for them because they believe it is all glitz and glamour.
“This is more real. It’s grounded in reality.”
The spokesperson said, “While Paige said the show does include a few swear words, it is a show that is suitable for teenagers and she believes will resonate with them.”
“The show is great” she said. “My cast and crew have worked exceptionally hard to bring this whole thing to life and really bring a dream of mine to the stage.”
The spokesperson said, “Ordinary Days is set to be performed July 17 to 19 and July 24 to 27, with the show starting at 8pm
“Tickets cost $35 and are available for purchase at Ptix.bm.”
